Prospect Lefferts Gardens | Brooklyn, NY

PLG is a small neighborhood extending north of Flatbush, adjacent to Prospect Park, with plenty of tree lined streets and pre-war buildings and homes. It was designated a NYC landmark area in 1979, but still some historical buildings remain unprotected (which could affect the neighborhood’s history and scale). There is a strong sense of community, between block associations, local organizations, and a historically relatively low turnover in residents.

Wandering Home seeks to strengthen residents’ sense of place, belonging, and connection with their own neighborhood. Using the historic Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood in Brooklyn as a framework, residents present and past will contribute photos and stories of specific places to an online archive.

The result is a location-based AR experience that transforms a daily walking commute into an exploration of history and connections, democratizing the history of the neighborhood and contributing to connection, understanding, and empathy for one’s neighbors.
